Medium size apothecary jar with original stopper and embossed markings T C W CO. USA. on the base.
This mark indicates that the bottle was manufactured by T. C. Wheaton & Co. (Millville, NJ). This narrow neck druggist bottle was intended for liquids like tinctures and this type of shop bottles were sometimes offered as "Round Shoulder Prescriptions". Our bottle has round shoulder and one vertical seam line on each side up to the neck base where it disappears. The neck has concentric tooling marks or rings as if it underwent a turning process. Embossed druggist bottles with this discontinuous vertical side mold seams are referred to as "mouth-blown" or "hand-made". The vast majority of U. S. manufactured, mouth-blown molded bottles were made between about 1820 and 1915.
